STS066-121-002 Colorado River, San Juan River, and Lake Powell, Utah, U.S.A. November 1994 Located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Lake Powell appears in this spectacular, southeast-looking, low-oblique photograph. The lake's numerous small canyons provide more shoreline than is found on the west coast of the United States. Lake Powell, 180 miles (290 kilometers) long, is a popular boating and recreation area. Visible are the confluence of the San Juan River and Lake Powell and, to the northeast, the joining of the Green and Colorado Rivers. Snowcapped Navajo Mountain [10 388 feet (3168 meters)] is visible in the top center of the photograph, separated from the linear, northwest-southeast-trending Kaiparowits Plateau by the Colorado River. | |
