| STS040-080-040 Stockton, California, U.S.A. June 1991 Stockton, developed during the California Gold Rush of the 1840s, is visible in this near-vertical photograph. The surrounding area is rich in agricultural lands that produce fruits and grains. Stockton is a major commercial and industrial center and a deep water port. Bethany Reservoir, a state recreation area, lies west of Stockton. Near the center left of the photograph appears the delta of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers continuing westward into San Pablo Bay. |
