Image Caption: STS064-214-019 Stony Gorge Reservoir, California, U.S.A. September 1994
The dark green, forested mountains of Mendocino National Forest, part of the Coast Range, are featured in this near-vertical photograph. Visible west of the hogback ridges fronting the Coast Range are the light turquoise waters of Stony Gorge Reservoir and the south-flowing Stony River. Prominent in the photograph are the sharp demarcations between the heavily forested Coast Range, the brown scrub vegetation of the alluvial fan region, and the yellow-green agricultural fields of the Sacramento Valley.
