Image Caption: This tropical thunderstorm was photographed over the Pacific Ocean NW of New Guinea (10.0N, 130.0E). Taken late in the day in low light, the three dimensional effect is the result of the interaction of atmospheric dust and rays of sunlight passing through the atmosphere. The high cumulonimbus clouds reach the upper atmosphere and often produce unusual lighting effects.
