Highland and lowland landuse
The dark-colored, rugged, ravine-cut highlands of the Australian
Alps contrast strongly with the greener, low valleys on the in-
land (west) side of the highlands. The Alps host many man-made
lakes such as Lake Eildon (left) and Lake Eucumbene (right). The
valleys show light-colored, angular patterns of irrigated agri-
