Image Caption: STS51B-038-0099American Falls Reservoir and Pocatello, Idaho, U.S.A. May 1985
American Falls Reservoir, one of the largest on the Snake River, is visible just above the center of this west-southwest-looking, low-oblique photograph. The reservoir, built in 1927, is used for irrigation and recreation. East of the reservoir on the Portneuf River is Pocatello, a major shipping and processing point for surrounding ranches and farms. The city's industries produce chemicals, flour, cement, fertilizer, dairy products, and electronic equipment, and Pocatello attracts numerous tourists. The Caribou National Forest Headquarters are housed in Pocatello. Small, narrow Mud Lake appears just below the right center of the photograph.
