Hill Country
Unlike rivers of the low Channel Country, those in the hill coun-
try are narrow, confined within valley walls. Rainfall is higher
at altitudes of 300-350 meters so that green woodland covers
large areas between the Warrego (1), Paroo (2), Beechal (3) and
Bulloo (4) Rivers. A major roadway and railroad occupy the N-S
Warrego valley, but these are difficult to discern from orbit.
Towns such as Charleville (arrow) are visible somewhat better in
wooded--country where trees have been cleared--than in semidesert
savannas. (41D-43-79)
