For PAO-recommend image be rotated 90 degrees Right. Caption written to rotated image.
The rugged, rocky, sandy desert landscape of the west coast of Yemen is visible in this near-vertical view. The southern portion of Kamaran Island, the largest Yemen-controlled island in the Red Sea, can be seen in left center and bottom left portion of the image. The island is 11 miles (18 km) long and 4.5 miles (7 km) wide. Though the island is listed as uninhabited, a small resort has been established on the island for overnight tourists. Coral reefs surround three sides of the island. The Isa Peninsula, that is visible near the center of the image and extends eastward to the upper right on the image, is also barren and sandy. The darker areas seen on the peninsula are scrub brush regions near the coastal shores. The Al Salief Port area just slightly above the center of the image has a small runway and is a staging area for visits to Kamaran Island. The climate of the region is hot and very humid. A small rocky and sandy island is visible at the bottom center of the image. To the small island's right and near the bottom right of the image, the smallish brownish-red object in the water is a large ship.
