This is a magnificent southward view of the Andes between Copiapo, Chile and San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina. Volcan Copiapo, Laguna Verde is also visible. The low viewing angle gives good impressions of topographic relief of major volcanoes rising above the high plateau of the Andes. The great elevations of the range and the nearly continuous chain of volcanoes down most of its length are characteristic of crustal plate boundaries where an oceanic plate (the Nazca plate in this case) is descending beneath a continental plate (South America, on the American plate).
