Image Caption: STS094-709-33
Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia and Yemen, southward from Jaza ir Farasan Islands. An uncommonly fine photo straight down Red Sea rift faults, which have served as conduits for young (very black) lavas. Volcanoes are aligned along the faults and form linear ridges rather than individual high volcanic peaks. The companion features to these on the opposite side of the Red Sea are the vents of Erte Ale.
