Image Caption: The reddish rock mass near one of the fault splays has been separated from its counterpart at the north end of the island (comparative view) by about 480 km.Mt. Cook is in the upper right of this photo, with Tasman glacier flowing down its southeast flank. The waters of Lake Pukaki, which is fed by the Tasman and Murchison glaciers, contain rock that's been ground to flour-like consistency by the ice; the suspended rock flour gives the lake its lighter color.
