Image Caption: STS085-710-008 Lake Camanche, California August, 1997
The blue-colored waters of Lake Camanche (right of center on the image) can be seen in this near vertical view. Lake Camanche is a recreational lake on the Mokelumne River in the rolling foothills of the Sierra Nevada (top quarter of image). The lake covers 12 sq. miles (31 sq. km) and has 54 miles (87 km) of shoreline. To the east of Lake Camanche and barely discernible is the Pardee Reservoir. This reservoir also on the Modelumne River covers a surface area of 2257 acres (914 hectares) and has 37 miles (60 km) of shoreline. A portion of the city of Sacramento is visible in the lower left portion of the image.
