Image Caption: STS085-710-013 Carson City, Lake Tahoe, Nevada August, 1997
Located to the right of the center of the image is the capitol of Nevada, Carson City. Carson City is located 30 miles (48 km) south of Reno (bottom center of image) and 14 miles (23 km) east of Lake Tahoe (right center of image). The city is situated at the northern edge of the Carson Valley, an irrigated agricultural area. Carson City is a trade center for a mining and agricultural area. State Government ranks as the main employer in the city, and tourism ranks second. Just to the north of Carson City, the sediment-laden waters of Washoe Lake are visible.
