Image Caption: STS068-202-008 Cape Blanco, Coast Range, Oregon October 1994
Situated on the central Oregon coast, Cape Blanco can be seen in this south-looking color infrared view. Backing the cape, which is a recreational area, is the rugged, forested (darker red colors) Coast Range with some elevations exceeding 5000 feet (1525 meters) above sea level. Winter storms in this region of Oregon can and do cause exceedingly high winds and heavy rainfall with their passage. Lumbering practices (cleared areas) are discernible in the mountains to the north of Cape Blanco in the bottom left quadrant of the image.
