Image Caption: STS059-213-007 Redding, California, U.S.A. April 1994
Redding, located at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, is discernible in this low-oblique, southeast-looking photograph. The city, a main tourist center in this mountain and lake region, also has lumbering and processing industries. Here the Sacramento River begins its trek south toward Sacramento, eventually emptying into San Pablo Bay north of San Francisco. Visible near the bottom center are Shasta Lake and blue-gray Whiskeytown Lake.
