S48-109-090: This lake has a long history of commercial salt
production since the days of the Moghul dynasty (1526-1857).
Later the states of Jaipur and Jodhpur began salt refining opera-
tions which continue commercial production to this day. The salt
evaporation pans and production plants are located on the eastern
shores of the lake. It s reported that several villages includ-
ing Sambhar, Japog, Nauranopura depend upon the commercial salt
production activities of this lake.
