View Close-
up This exceptional series of photos depicts the three-
dimensional structure of the lenticular (standing wave) cloud.
This cloud is formed when strong winds blow over a mountain range
aligned normal to the direction of wind flow. Clouds form on the
lee or down wind side of the mountain. Lenticular clouds are in-
dicator clouds for severe turbulence.
