STS045-71-051: Hawaii A possible steam plume from Kilauea vol-
cano, Hawaii can be seen coming off the coast beneath low cloud
cover on this photograph. The plume originates from the approxi-
mate area of activity along the volcano's East Rift Zone, and
likely comes from either a surface breakout of lava, or lava pond
on the East Rift.
