The oily smoke plumes from the fires were mostly contained within a few hundred kilometers of the source and extended upward 3-5 km into the atmosphere. The large areas of oily, blackened surfaces around the Al Ahmadi and Al Burquan oil fields show the deposit of particulates and how the appearance of the sands have changed.
