S43-75-54 - Sandstorm across the Red Sea
Detailed shot of the Somali/Red Sea sandstorm, which apperently
lasted for at least three days. Hasselblad camera, 250mm lens, 6
August 1991, 8:25 GMT
This relatively small - 40 x 70 miles - dust plume was photographed as it spread over the Red Sea from the Gulf of Aqiq on the Sudan coast (18.5N, 38.0E). In this overhead view, individual plumes within the storm, that reportedly lasted for at least three days, can be seen in great detail. This vertical view is of the same dust storm portrayed in the more distant and regional oblique perspective scene STS043-151-086.
