STS040-77-087 Nile Delta, detail of western edge: Alexandria,
salt evaporation ponds, shoreline features.
The June 1991 view of much of the same region. In the interven-
ing 26Jyears since the Gemini photo, agriculture has expanded
into the western desert of Egypt. The brackish ponds visible in
the 1965 photo to the left are now commercial salt ponds. The
city of Alexandria has also expanded significantly.
