STS040-614-047 and STS040-614-048 These sunglint photographs,
taken along the coast of Virginia at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay,
show an incredible amount of horizontal variability, the likes of
which have never been seen before in this area. It's not that
this variability is unique, but rather that surface measurements
and satellite imagery of water color do not show structure of
this complexity. Presently, the hand-held photographs of the
sunglint pattern collected during Space Shuttle flights are the
only data that reveal these potentially important features.
