STS040-151-225 Parapeti River megafan and dunes, southern
Bolivia. A faint but unusual pattern of dunes can be detected
beneath the forest in southern Bolivia. The dunes relate to
strong southerly winds of a very arid phase in the recent geolog-
ical past (probably during the last 20 000 years), during which
most of the Amazonian forest died out.
