Sediment and Plumes, IndonesiaClouds and haze are normal for most of In-
donesia, including Sumatra. Both dark effluents and lighter
river and coastal sediment plumes flow offshore and become en-
trained in the prevailing currents. Sediment-laden rivers sug-
gest changing land uses throughout the region.(S27-40-
100)Sediment and Plumes, IndonesiaClouds and haze are normal for
most of Indonesia, including Sumatra. Note the numerous
smokeplumes flowing out from the shoreline near the lake. These
are much darker than the sediment plumes from the rivers and
streams draining the interior. Scientists are debating as to
what these plumes may represent. Sediment-laden rivers suggest
changing land uses throughout the region. (S27-40-100)
