Central Orinoco River
This photo mosaic shows a small segment, approximately 150 kilom-
eters, of the Orinoco River in Central Venezuela. Along the
south side of the Orinoco River, the foothills of the rugged
Guiana Highlands can be seen; while on the north side of the
river, the topography is very flat with large areas of swamp and
marsh (areas of deep green/blue). Construction of a relatively
new highway is visible (1) at the lower edge of the mosaic. This
road is probably being built to allow access into the sparsely
populated Guiana Highlands. The Rio Apure can be seen entering
(2) the Orinoco River. (S26-35-041, 042)
