Photo #: STS085-708-66 Date: Aug. 1997 Geographic Region: USA-TEXAS Feature: SAN ANGELO |
STS085-708-066 San Angelo, Texas August 1997 The small city of San Angelo is near the center of the image in this northwest-looking low-oblique view. Located in the northern portion of the Edwards Plateau on the Concho River, San Angelo is a commercial, processing, and distribution center in a ranching and farming region. The city is also an important wool and mohair market. Southwest of the city (left of the image) is the Twin Buttes Reservoir, and directly northeast of the reservoir are the runways of Mathis Field. Barely discernible to the northwest of town is the San Angelo Reservoir. The city was founded beside a border military post, Fort Concho (now restored as a National Historic Landmark). |
