STS61A-044-0019 Rio Grande Valley and El Paso, Texas, U.S.A. November 1985 This southwest-looking, low-oblique photograph features the Rio Grande Valley and El Paso in extreme west Texas. El Paso, located in a region of cattle ranches and cotton and vegetable farms, is a commercial, industrial, and mining center for west Texas and south-central New Mexico. Irrigation for the Rio Grande Valley is furnished by the Elephant Butte Reservoir (not visible) in New Mexico. Juarez, Mexico, lies opposite El Paso on the west bank of the Rio Grande. Apparent are the Franklin Mountains north of El Paso and the low, rugged Hueco Mountains east of El Paso. | |
