  STS073-744-055 Escondido, California, U.S.A. October 1995
The coastline captured in this photograph extends from northern metropolitan San Diego to the southern boundary of Camp Pendleton (U.S. Marine Corps Base). Some street patterns of Escondido are barely visible. Interstate Highway 15, the north-south white line traversing Escondido, connects San Diego with metropolitan Los Angeles. Some northern coastline consists of long, straight stretches of sandy beach, some of which are sandy peninsulas built by the longshore currents. The color infrared film displays the greatest concentrations of vegetation as reds, with the darker grays showing less vegetation. (Refer to STS-073-744-054 for the area immediately north.)
