7. STS068-167-000J – This low oblique is centered on the Loup River system in central Nebraska. The prominent, dark water body to the north is Calamus Reservoir on the North Loup River. East of Calamus is Sherman Reservoir, which appears gray in this photograph. Johnson Lake is south of the Platte River. Several cities are evident along the Platte including, from left, Gothenburg, Cozad and Lexington. A portion of Kearney appears at the eastern edge of the photo. (Oct. 9, 1994)
8. STS068-167-000L – This photo is centered on the Little Blue and Republican river basins in south-central Nebraska. South of the Republican River is Lovewell Reservoir. At upper left, north of the Platte River, is Grand Island. Hastings appears directly south of Grand Island. The large, triangular feature southeast of Hastings is the remnant of a World War II-era ordinance plant. (Oct. 9, 1994)
9. STS074-733-062 Nebraska is one of the most heavily irrigated states in the country. A popular mechanism of irrigation in the state is the center pivot, which delivers water from a central source through sprinklers spaced along a long pipe mounted on wheels which revolves around a central point. The result is the round-shaped patches of vegetation or soil seen on the landscape when viewed from above. This photo depicts the heavily irrigated central Platte River Valley. A portion of eastern Colorado is shown as well. (November 1995)
