7. STS040-077-054 Parts of Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri are shown in this wide-angle photograph, centered on Kansas City and the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. Astronauts have the ability to capture large, regional settings that provide unique perspectives about areal distribution of landscape features. The area imaged by this photo, taken June 6, 1991, is about 3,000 square miles. Visible here are a portion of Tuttle Creek Reservoir at center left and Harry S. Truman Reservoir, Missouri, at lower right.
8. STS51B-037-088 Taken May 2, 1985, over Colorado looking toward Kansas, this oblique shot depicts patterns of irrigated agriculture in the southwestern portion of the state. Center pivots dot the Arkansas River Valley at top center. The body of water to the left of center is John Martin Reservoir, in Colorado. Also shown are the Two Butte River and the North Fork of the Cimarron River.
9. STS062-152-205 – Depicted here is the Kansas City area, home to 1.6 million people. Note Kansas City International Airport north of the city. Seen along Interstate 35 extending southwest out of the city is Olathe. Leavenworth is visible to the north in the Missouri River Valley. Depicted at top center is Smithville Reservoir. This photo was taken March 10, 1994.
