| Water Features and Water Issues |
| These photographs capture dynamic conditions in different water bodies. They provide a means of visualizing the phenomena (relative water levels, surface dynamics, water chemistry and nutrient distribution) which can otherwise be sampled only in point locations and extrapolated through models.
Water rights and water use are one of today's most important political and economic issues, particularly as populations in arid and semi-arid regions swell. Imagery from the Mir documents water level changes around the globe as well as landuse differences which impact available fresh water supplies . This data set is particularly powerful when coupled with historical imagery from earlier space missions. The data document rates of change in water reserves, related to both climate fluctuations and human landuse.
