The southernmost atoll of Diego Garcia includes a major US military base. This atoll is also notable for the narrow but clearly continuous island following the atoll rim [STS038-86-105, 1990].

This is one of 84 astronaut photographs that appear in the World Atlas of Coral Reefs, published by the University of California Press.

This server is scheduled to be off starting the evening of Thursday October 10 and ending the morning of Tuesday October 15 to accommodate a scheduled power outage.
