Looking south, the 60-mile-long (97 km) Thakkola-Mustang graben cuts across the Himalaya Range forming the valley of the Kali Gandaki River. The Kali Gandaki flows southwest out onto the Ganges Plain in the distance. The village of Mustang, the center of an ancient kingdom, is near the north end of the valley. At the south end, Annapurna, the 7th highest mountain in Asia at 26,545' (8,091 m), dominates the Annapurna Massif on the left and the 5th highest peak, Dhaulagiri (26,795', 8,167 m) is to the right.
