The Indus originates just north of Mt. Kailas and its major tributary, the Sutlej, arises from springs to the west of the lakes. To the east of the lakes, the Brahmaputra (Tsangpo) River flows toward us in the broad valley that parallels the Himalaya Mountain front The Karnali River flows southward from the base of Ghurla Mandhata (25,355", 7728 m) to meet the Ganges.
