This view looks northwest along the Karakoram fault. Mapam Yumco ("pear") and La'nga Co ("champagne") lakes lie just east of the end of the trend of the Karakoram. The Indus Suture Zone runs up the valley just north of the lakes and is offset along the fault. You can see that the left side has moved away from us for about 70 miles (113 km). Very near, but not at the lakes, are the headwaters of four major rivers.
