This view looks west along the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau with Mt. Everest at the bottom of the photo. All the prominent landmarks needed from west to east along the Himalayas to find Mt. Everest are visible. Starting near the horizon are the Karakoram fault (a strike-slip fault like the San Andreas of California) and two lakes close together, Mapam Yumco and La'nga Co. Later views will make it obvious why we nickname these lakes "pear" and "champagne."
