| Aral Sea (entire). As river waters are diverted for agriculture, progressively less has been reaching the Aral and this inland water body is rapidly shrinking. Toxic agricultural and industrial wastes that once lay on the sea bottom are now exposed, picked up by the winds, and blown out over croplands. |
