| Ruapehu and Tongariro volcanoes, North Island, New Zealand. In contrast with Mt. Egmont, Ruapehu is active and frequently produces plumes of ash and steam. In 1995 the volcano erupted and blasted the acidic waters of the summit crater lake outward over the countryside. |
