Sinai Peninsula, Suez Canal, Gulf of Suez rift. The Gulf of Aqaba (right) marks the African-Arabian plate boundary that continues northward via the Dead Sea fault zone. Because Arabia is moving northeastward away from Africa, the opposing sides of the Gulf of Suez, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba/Dead Sea are moving obliquely away from each other.
