The Volga is the largest river in Europe and its delta has been progressively flooded by rising Caspian Sea waters during the past two decades (~2.8 m). This detailed view shows drowned canals, changed shapes of delta islands, and standing water among coastal sand dunes of the southern delta. *Volga delta time series STS059-218-064 of April 1994, and NM21-735-043 of May 1996 (not shown).
