| The Hovsgol rift, in Mongolia, lies west of the Baykal rift and is linked t oit by an east-trending transform fault zone. This is the best photo to date that illustrates the asymmetry of rift valleys - one flank of the valley is a steep fault scarp (east), whereas the other flank slopes more gradually toward the valley axis. |
