Tigris-Euphrates Delta--comparison with STS034-72-090 shows the changes in both the agriculture along hte river channel and the size of the delta itself. There are also changes in the channelization of the rivers. It appears that streamflow has diminished.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The town of Abu Dhabi was chosen as the capital of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. Since this time the city has been modernixed, and over twenty million trees have been planted in the immediate area. Port facilities have been modernized to handle bigger tankers. Changes in the comparitive view (STS030-89-080 of 1989) are the expansion of dredge islands and the development of new port facilities.

The Volga is the largest river in Europe and its delta has been progressively flooded by rising Caspian Sea waters during the past two decades (~2.8 m). This detailed view shows drowned canals, changed shapes of delta islands, and standing water among coastal sand dunes of the southern delta. *Volga delta time series STS059-218-064 of April 1994, and NM21-735-043 of May 1996 (not shown).

The Aral' Sea has diminished dramatically ove rthe past fifteen years. The most noticeable changes between January, 1998 and September, 200 have been the complete isolation of the smaller northern water body, the decrease in total water area, and expansion of the major north-trending island.
