| Greece: Island of Corfu and coast of S Albania and NW Greece. Tilted and folded rock layers are clearly visible in this exceptional view -- part of a 4- frame mapping strip of the Ionian Islands and coast of Albania and Greece. The folded ridges consist of strata that were deposited on the seafloor, then uplifted and crumpled during the collision of Africa and Eurasia about 60 m.y. ago. (see also frame 71) |
