| Italy: Mt. Etna. On July 23, the day when this excellent photo was taken, an ash cloud from one of the summit vents reached an altitude of 5,000 m. Steam (white) is issuing from two vents on the flanks of the volcano; steam and ash may also be coming from a vent that is partially obscured by the main ash cloud. |
