| United States: Big Island, Hawaii. Dark lava flows decorate the flanks of the great shield-shaped volcano Mauna Loa; Mauna Kea lies farther north, across a topographic swale that is visible here. The area where lava was flowing into the sea during this mission is under the band of clouds along the northeast side of the island. |
