| Argentina: The Pacific seafloor is descending (being subducted) beneath the South American tectonic plate. Just inland from the Peru-Chile trench is a chain of volcanoes that extends from Colombia to the tip of Chile, with a break between 30 and 33 degrees S. Laguna de Salina Verde is at ~15,000 ft with the volcanoes of Cerro Ojos del Salado rising to ~21,000 ft. |
