STS097-704-4 New Zealand: Cook Strait; Marlboro fault zone - part of the Australian-Pacific tectonic plate boundary; Red Hill [center] has been split, other half is now 480 km farther south; seismic hazard to city of Nelson.

STS097-702-86 Argentina: Andes Mountains, foreland basin, Patagonia, looking Northeast.

STS097-702-88 Argentina: Andes Mountains, Neuquen lakes, foreland basin, Patagonia, looking Northeast.

STS097-715-61 Central Andes: Mapping strip--Pacific coast, Andes, San Juan area, Cerro Pie de Palo, northern Precordillera ranges, Valle Fertil. Ancient folded rocks of the Precordillera contrast with the younger volcanic peaks and ranges.

STS097-715-70 Central Andes: From the north point of Valle Fértil and Sierra de Velasco, the Andean Altiplano widens abruptly and narrow foreland ranges bend Northeast. Rusty volcanic terrain of the Altiplano lies to the NW. Along this fundamental tectonic boundary new gold mines are being developed.

STS097-715-74 Central Andes: This view west across the southernmost Altiplano/Puna encompasses the north terminus of Precordillera structures and north terminus of volcanic vents and intervening salars of the Altiplano. Salar de Pipinaco lies just north of the tectonic boundary.

STS097-366-13 Argentina: Andean blue lake--Laguna Verde.

STS097-366-34 Bolivia: Long, straight river valleys reflect control by fault zones and folded bedrock ranges in the Andean foothills of Bolivia. Numerous tilted rock layers can be seen in this beautiful view.

STS097-701-87 Argentina: Desaguadero River ancient inland delta, Patagonia.
