| Houtman Abrolhos Archipelago and Geraldton, Australia: This area was the site of the infamous wreck and mutiny of the Batavia in 1629. Today it is the site of the largest commercial fishery in Western Australia (for rock lobster). The warm Leeuwin current maintains water temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius and permits tropical corals and fish to survive at a latitude that would normally be too cold. |
